On 14 September 2026 HUMANBIZ was in Mildura, Victoria, for a Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme information session focused on Timor-Leste. The session covered how the Timor-Leste labour mobility pathway works, what recruitment and pre-departure preparation look like, and what Timorese workers and their communities gain from the scheme — which this year marks ten years of Timor-Leste's participation.

Most of the employers in the room came from horticulture, so HUMANBIZ was the meat processing voice at the table. That is exactly why we went: our Papua New Guinea cohorts are now settled at Greenham Tongala and WAMMCO Katanning, and Timor-Leste is the sending country we are looking at next as we grow our Pacific workforce for Australian meat processors.

Our thanks to the PALM scheme team and the Timor-Leste representatives for a practical, well-run session. Employers who would like to talk about PALM scheme recruitment for their site are welcome to get in touch.
